There is a time for planning and you need to make sure that your efforts are orientated in the right direction but it doesn't require obsessive thought. The future is made in the present moment. The past brought you to where you are now - find gratitude there and grow from it. For what purpose? The only real, wholesome thing we can do with past experiences is learn and grow. We regret, we reminisce about the good old days, we wish things were different, we punish ourselves by rerunning painful events over and over again in our mind. So many thoughts of the past cause us unnecessary suffering. We can do nothing to change the past - let's accept this fact as a starting point. Where is the past and future? We carry them around in our head as though they are real but where are they? Aren't they are just thoughts? So much of our suffering is due to obsessive thinking about the past and future. Be here now! Let's walk through it a bit. There is no first step other than to be present.
